The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [3] Leviticus

One thread in the complex storyline of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the link between verses from the Book of Leviticus and gruesome murders of women. Leviticus is the 3rd book of the Hebrew Bible and also of the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. This novel and film are set in Sweden, where there is no longer an officially recognized church. While Swedes still identify as Christians, the majority of them don't believe in God. It is in this context that the storyline of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo unfolds: For 40 years, no one could solve the mystery of a young girl's disappearance, because even the most dogged detective, distraught great uncle, and curious townspeople thought one of the girl's journal entries was phone numbers - instead of references to the Leviticus. It took the investigative journalist's daughter to notice, offhandedly, that the entry pointed to Biblical verses.
